Do you know that when you lose 1 pound of weight you lose 3500 calories? 1 liter of Dextrose 5 Normal Saline Solution has 1700 calories. High calorie diet is advised for patients with Hepatitis. Viral Hepatitis has decreased platelet count that can cause bleeding tendencies. Watch out for melena in Peptic Ulcer disease. Rigid abdomen, elevated temperature are signs of perforated ulcer. Ulcerative Colitis is an autoimmune disease that can be treated by steriod. Steriod therapy can cause Cushing’s disease because of excessive cortisol and glucocorticoids in the body. Truncal obesity is a sign of Cushing’s disease. Obesity predisposes Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 that can be controlled by oral hypoglycemic agents. Oral hypoglycemic drugs are not advised for Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 but insulin that’s injected subcutaneously. Insulin acts like a key to open the cells to absorb glucose so inadequate insulin can cause excessive glucose in the blood. Viscous blood can damage the kidney. Damaged kidney can result decreased potassium in the blood. Hypokalemia (low potassium) can cause cardiac arrest. Diuretic such as Lasix can cause hypokalemia. Banana is a good source of potassium. When potassium is low sodium is high. Sodium attracts water so restrict sodium in patients with Chronic Renal Failure and certain illnesses with symptom of fluid retention. Fluid shifts to interstitial compartment when there is edema. Too much accumulation of fluid in peritoneal cavity when there is ascites. Ascites can also be found in clients with Liver Cirrhosis. Alcoholism is the number one cause of Liver Cirrhosis, Pancreatitis and some fetal abnormalities such as Alcoholic Fetal Syndrome. Low folic acid diet of mother results Neural Tube Defects of newborn. Anencephaly is absence of brain in neonates; induced abortion is a must. Complete abortion is a condition which all products of conception are expelled from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is a condition when implantation happens not in the uterus but in fallopian tube. Fallopian tubes are tied, cut or clamped to prevent pregnancy in Bilateral Tubal Ligation. Fertilization happens in fallopian tube. Fertile women have higher body temperature. Elevated temperature is a sign of Increased Intracranial Pressure along with high blood pressure and decreased respiration and heart rate. Decreased heart rate is a result of cardiac glycoside such as Digoxin. Withhold drug when heart rate is 60 beats per min and below. Normal respiration of newborn ranges from 30 to 60 per min. Newborn has Moro reflex. Absence of deep tendon reflex indicates hypermagnesimia. Withhold Magnesium Sulfate when there are inactive deep tendon reflex, oliguria and low blood pressure in patients with Eclampsia. Eclampsia is common in teenage pregnant women. Dystocia is also common among young pregnant women because of cephalopelvic disproportion. Blah blah blah blah. I like to sell my Pharmacology book to anyone interested for only 600 pesos. lol.

    1. That’s how I review before the exam. Don’t sell them all. Though you can’t use them unlike before, they can be beautiful decors on your shelves. Book collection is more than awesome when you think about it. You may wanna buy my Pharma, yea, good as new. It’s as big and as thick as MS book. Lol now that’s salespitch. Seriously, don’t sell all for freakin 600 pesos. They are useful references for good and it is nice to read nursing topics once in a while. 😉
